Funeral of One of Traverse City Founders
13/12/22, 12:00 PM

Leon Lysaght, one of the founders of our mission in Traverse City, reposed in the Lord shortly after Archbishop Peter visited the community for their feast day this year. On Saturday, December 10, the funeral for the servant of God Leon took place at the St. Sebastian parish in Traverse City. This was the first funeral for the mission, and fittingly so, in that the community was bidding farewell to one of their founders.

Leon’s earthly remains arrived at the church on December 9 and divine services were held that evening. On December 10 Priest Micah Chisholm, Rector of the mission, and the mission’s Deacon Michael Rossmeisel, served Divine Liturgy. Following the Liturgy they were joined by Fr. Rade Obsenica of St. George Serbian Church in Monroe, as well as Fr. Gregory Joyce of St. Vladimir Church in Ann Arbor.

Fr. Micah led the funeral and Fr. Rade gave the eulogy. The choir sang beautifully and prayerfully under the direction of the mission choir director Aidan Siler. Following the funeral a memorial meal was held at the mission. Later that afternoon Leon was buried in his family plot.

We ask the prayers of our Michigan Deanery faithful for the repose of the soul of the newly-departed Leon, his wife Pamela, and all the family and friends who are grieving at their loss. May the Lord reward Leon one hundredfold for his diligent service to His Church in this world!
